The story of the migrant
Shanti Sivaraj has built a successful business in fast food. But what really feeds his soul is giving back.
Shanti came to Australia from Sri Lanka some 30 years ago with just $200 in his pocket. He got a job flipping burgers. Today he owns six fast food stores in Perth’s northern suburbs. Yet he has never forgotten the people he left behind in his war-torn homeland. That’s why he founded the Om Shanti Foundation.
The foundation name combines two Sanskrit words: “om”, the mystic symbol and sacred mantra of Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism, and Shanti’s own name, which means peace.
Our fundraising activities include our Kids for Kids sister school program, fundraising events and direct donations.
